Time to Get “Wild” with Amuro Namie

Amuro Namie is going wild, at the charts that is. Amuro, a byword in the music industry in her native Japan, is ready to conquer the world with her latest singe “Wild,” which is currently sweeping Asia. Once tagged as the “Queen of Japanese Pop Music,” Amuro holds the distinction as the only female singer in her country to have a top-ten hit for 14-consecutive years. The 32-year-old singer started her singing career at the tender age of 14, but nine studio albums and four compilation records later, Amuro is still going strong.
Amuro started her career as a singer for the girl group Super Monkey’s, which shoot to fame with the single “Try Me-Watashi o Shinjite.” She rocketed to the top of the music industry in 1997, when her single “Can You Celebrate” became Japan’s biggest-selling record for a female singer. “Can You Celebrate” was followed by several other hit singles, including “I Have Never Seen,” which topped the charts in 1998.
This time, she is attracting more fans with her R&B hit “Wild,” whose video reinforces Amuro’s reputation as a total performer, a characteristic that is seldom inherent in singers today. “Wild” is a catchy track that oozes with vibrant beats that have been the singer’s signature since she transitioned from pop to R&B in 2001.The song has hit number in Japan and is currently getting heavy exposure in other Asian countries like the Philippines. Aside from being a hit to fans, “Wild” also caught the eye of the marketing experts at Coke, which used the track in its commercial for Coke Zero. “Wild” is Amuro’s 34th single and her 11th number-one hit.
More than anything, “Wild” proves that Amuro, arguably Japan’s most successful singers, is here to stay. And if fans’ acceptance of “Wild” is to be used as basis, there is no doubt that Amuro, like wine, is getting better with age.
