Lee Dewyze Wins American Idol Season 9

Finally, after months of waiting, America has a new Idol. The 24-year old Lee Dewyze, a former paint salesman, became the talent show’s 9th winner by defeating rival Crystal Bowersox. The 2-hour finals night included numbers from fellow Season 9 contestants and special guests that includes Alanis Morissette, Carrie Underwood, Chicago and Janet Jackson.

Aside from revealing the new idol, tonight is also special because it was judge Simon Cowell’s last season for the popular talent show. Former Idol judge Paula Abdul made a special appearance for the night along with former Idol from previous seasons who did a special song number as tribute to the show’s well-loved judge. Cowell, who is known for his frank and often sarcastic remarks, announced that he was leaving the show January of this year.
