Kiefer Sutherland Victimized by Scam
Star of the hit TV seried 24, Kiefer Sutherland was involved in what California authorities believe is an elaborate cattle scam organized by a con man. Sutherland was ripped of a total of $869,000. The suspect, Michael Wayne Carr, allegedly approached the actor’s representatives back in 2006 to offer a $550,000 business deal that involved his buying of cattle in Mexico and selling them for profit in the U.S.
According to Kiefer, Carr wired him $685,000 just 30 days after the initial investment, therefor earning him a profit amounting to $130,000. A few months later, Carr approached his financial advisers again to offer a similar deal, this time requiring an investment of $869,000. Sutherland claims he never got the money back.
Carr, who claimed that he used the money to pay off a huge bank of debt, is charged with 12 felonies, including grand theft and embezzlement.
