Heath Ledger won Best Supporting Actor

Ledger portrayed the Joker in “The Dark Knight” and his performance earned him a posthumous Oscar. He was the second performer honored with this award.
At the 81st annual Academy Awards ceremony, his father, Kim; his mother, Sally; and Kate, his sister, accepted the award in his behalf. Their speech made the crowd teary eyed.
Kim said, “This award tonight would have humbly validated Heath’s determination to be truly accepted by you all here, his peers within this industry. He’s so loved.”
“Heath was such a compassionate and generous soul who added so much excitement and inspiration to our lives,” added Sally Ledger. “Tonight, we are choosing to celebrate and be happy for what he has achieved.”
“We really wish you were [here] but we are proud to accept this award in behalf of your beautiful [daughter] Matilda,” said Kate Ledger.
