Axl Rose Sues Activision for $20 M Over “Guitar Hero III”

Posted by josefranco

Axl-RoseGuns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose has filed a case against video game developer Activision for breaking a contract stipulation not to include former guitarist Slash in “Guitar Hero III.”

Rose and his Black Frog Music company are demanding that Activision pay $20 million for the “damages” caused by the inclusion of the likeness of Slash, who broke away from GNR in 1996 to form Velvet Revolver. According to Rose’s complaint, Activision had agreed not to include Slash or Velvet Revolver in “GH III.” Rose claims that an image of Slash is included in the song “Welcome to the Jungle.”

Rose also said in the suit filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court that Activision used the song “Sweet Child O’ Mine” without permission in promoting “GH III.” According to the complaint, Activision was licensed to use “Sweet Child O’ Mine” only in “GH II.”

Rose’s lawyer, Skip Miller, said that they are seeking “disgorgement of profits and compensatory and punitive damages.” Activision, which released “GH III” late last month, has yet to comment on the issue.
