Pop Star Avril Lavigne files for a divorce from Whibley

Avril Lavigne has finally decided to officially end her three-year marriage with Sum 41 star Deryck Whibley. Court record shows that the “Complicated” hitmaker has filed for divorce last October 10 at a Lost Angeles court and cited “irreconcilable differences”as a ground of separation.

In her myspace blog, she wrote:

“Deryck and I have been together for six-and-a-half years. We have been friends since I was 17, started dating when I was 19, and married when I was 21. I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship.”

“I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know, and I love him with all my heart. Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note.”

The couple were married in July 2006, had no children together and their marriage had been under spotlight for much of 2009.  Lavigne mentioned that their property rights are to be determined according to the papers filed in a superiors court. Contactmusic reported that on September 4, Lavigne has revealed in the documents that the couple separated.  Lavigne is asking a ruling to block Whibley from receiving spousal support.

Court records show Whibley was granted a request to add Lavigne’s last name to his name in December 2007.

Before the breakup, it was reported that Lavigne was seen flirting with Brandon Davis after spending a month partying on his yacht in the South of France. But sources says Lavigne insisted that she and Brandon are just friends and not romantically involved.

Lavigne has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide since her debut album “Let Go” and is working on her fourth studio album. Currently she is one of the top-selling artists releasing albums in the United States, with over 10.25 million copies certified by the Recording Industry Association of America.
